Novice Competition Elements

Novice Men Short Program (SP)

Jumps
  • Axel or double Axel
  • Double or triple jump from footwork (may not repeat Axel-type jump)
  • Jump combo with (2 doubles) or (double and triple) (may not repeat either jump above)
Spins
  • Camel or sit spin; may commence from jump. No change of foot. (6 revs min)
  • Combo spin with only 1 change of foot, and at least 1 change of position (min 5 revs/foot; min 2 revs/psn)
Moves Step sequence with full utilization of surface (straight line, circular, or serpentine)

Novice Ladies Short Program (SP)

Jumps
  • Axel or double Axel

  • Layback or sideways leaning spin. No change of foot; no flying entry. (6 revs min)
  • Combo spin with only 1 change of foot, and at least 1 change of position (min 5 revs/foot; min 2 revs/psn)
Moves Spiral step sequence (at least 2 spiral positions, spiral must hold at least 3 sec)

Novice Well-Balanced Freeskate (FS)

Jumps Men: Max of 7 jump elements; Ladies: Max of 6 jump elements;
  • one must be Axel-type jump
  • at least 1 jump element must be combo or sequence (max 3)
Spins Max of 3 spins:
  • one must be flying spin (6 revs)
  • one must be spin combo (number of foot changes optional) (10 revs)
  • one must be spin with only one position (6 revs)
Steps Max of 1 step or spiral sequence fully utilizing ice surface (spiral must hold at least 3 sec)
Notes One jump combination may contain 3 jumps, the remaining are limited to 2 jumps. The number of jumps in a jump sequence is free. Only 2 triples or double Axels may be repeated, and if repeated at least one must be in combination or sequence. Any spin may begin with a flying entry.
